Think Freedom

If freedom could sing a song…small…as the throat of a bird, nowhere would a wall remain crumbled. It would not take many years…to comprehend…that ruins are a sign of human absence, that human presence creates life. -Ahmad Shamlou-

Together they examine the idea of the frame through different mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture and video. In referring to the frame itself they point out the theatricality of their mediums and subject matters. Embellishing the vision, eyelashes acknowledge the presence of a body. This body is a further decoration to establish and communicate the role it takes towards interpretation. What it wears, the tools it chooses, where it stands… all play an active role in the content this presence creates. Find out more here.

The Washed Light: A Solo Exhibition by Mina Ghaziani

Exhibition of works by Mina Ghaziani under the title of The Washed Light is on display at O Gallery from August 19, 2022 until August 30, 2022. The starting point for the creation of the collection on display was the experience of “being” in a garden in a distant geography. In order to avoid any sense of nostalgia and memory recollection, the artist has chosen the plant life of a distant location.

NADA Curated: Reduction to Satire (Reductio ad Satura)

The 2nd edition of NADA CURATED, titled Reduction to Satire, curated by Fatoş Üstek, independent curator and writer, has been launched in August 2022. Reduction to Satire is a newly coined term for the NADA Curated series. It is a hybrid term, borne out of the juxtaposition between two distinct approaches of engaging with the truth. Maryam Mohry from O Gallery, has had the habit of making cut-outs from her children’s books in order to narrate her own version of the story since she was a child. Mohry keeps the “game” of storytelling connected within all her works by offering notes of cartoonish eeriness in the humanlike expressions of her characters and addressing environmental concerns in a playful set up.

Happies: A Solo Exhibition at O Gallery by Maryam Sabbaghpour

Sabbaghpour illustrates fear and anxiety, rooted in our everyday routine. The collection on display, from August 5 – 16, 2022, depicts a rather new concern of the artist; the concept of time. Envisioning her paintings as time machines, she anticipates the future and interprets what’s gone. The artist challenges the viewer’s mind by raising questions, avoiding result-oriented thinking. With paradox being the main pivot of her works, she uses it as a means to criticize the human evolutional process through time and defines this explicit contradiction as a reason to raise doubt, question and conversion.

Portraits Behind the Face: A Solo Exhibition of Works on Paper by Ghazaleh Khoshghadam

The artist explores the flux between the human portrait and the spirit. While maintaining a connection to the reality of the subject, she uses portraiture as a means to emphasize the inner reflections. To diversify the psychological and personal layers of each character, Khoshghadam takes advantage of a limited, yet unconventional color palette, as well as different forms and strokes for each of her subjects. Her works are a study to perhaps find a way into the soul. The collection is on display at O Gallery from August 5 – 16, 2022.

Limit: Paintings by Reza Sedighian

The black empty spaces in Reza Sedighian’s paintings are shaped by placing layer upon layer of paper, in the same fashion that one would bind a book. Although you might think them to be monochromatic, upon closer observation there exists a certain texture, created by colored pigments hidden within the meshes. As an observer you are meant to search within the oeuvre to find meaning that speaks to you. The exhibition runs from July 22, 2022 until August 02, 2022 at O Gallery.

“Greenhouse No. 2; A False Memory”: Installation at Pasio of Mohsen Projects by Maryam Mohry

If we had the power to deliberately forget, modify, and alter our memories, would we make them real? In this project, which is presented in the Pasio space of Mohsen Gallery in collaboration with O Gallery, from July 15, 2022, Maryam Mohry considers greenhouses as a place for experimenting and playing. The space provides an opportunity to experience nurturing and fabricating as well as recounting and partaking in a conversation. For Maryam, a greenhouse is a sanctuary and a workshop in which she can bring memories to life.

A Remembrance of Fallen Leaves: Boyeh Sadatnia Paintings

A collection of paintings by Boyeh Sadatnia, titled A Remembrance of Fallen Leaves, runs at O Gallery from July 1, 2022 – July 18, 2022. Boyeh Sadatnia’s present collection takes inspiration from nature in its purest form. By juxtaposing broken forms and various colors in a setting that portrays landscapes he manages to create narratives of daily life and personal dreams, free of the human element. This has allowed him to focus his mind on his painting approach and in the process, giving him an in-depth understanding of dynamic and colorful landscapes.

Underlining the daily life of the people in the last two years, a dual image that neither means the end nor the continuation: it mutates, dissolves, suspends, gets suspended, upturns, and gets misread.

Here Farhadi reminds us that through acts of forgetfulness we become better equipped for survival. We become hopeful.
